Expand Democracy
Ideas for Fostering a Healthy Democracy in the 21st Century
Democracy is under profound stress, and the ecosystem for renewing it is broken too.
Expand Democracy is the accelerator that scales good ideas into catalysts for national change.
Our Mission
We identify, evaluate, and promote ideas designed to make democracy more participatory and representative.
The Problem
Because 21st-century pressures of rising polarization, fragmented media, widening inequality, and eroding trust in institutions are straining rules built for a different era, and
There's no reliable infrastructure to test, refine, fund, and scale good ideas,
Promising ideas are orphaned before they have the chance to affect change.
Our Approach
Expand Democracy meets the needs of the democracy reform movement by:
- Identifying and rigorously assessing promising ideas,
- Connecting democracy innovators to high-trust networks and new communication tools, and
- Catalyzing funding to move them forward — from concept to pilot to national relevance.
