How We Work
Expand Democracy seeks to catalyze consideration and action in support of promising pro-democracy ideas and strategies - with a focus on the United States, but interest in connecting with pro-democracy policies, initiatives, and conversations in other nations. We support existing reform efforts and draw attention to ways of advancing new ideas and strategies. Given our size, we do not do all of the following at the same time, but prioritize where we can be most impactful.
Convenings: We convene curated groups of reformers, influencers, and thought leaders to help address challenges, seize opportunities, and entertain new ideas in support of our mission.
Communications: Our team actively contributes to newspapers, magazines, and journals, shares insights on social media, and serves as a reliable media resource on topics of elections, electoral reform, and voting rights.
Applied research: We produce strategically prioritized research to inform electoral reform proposals and catalyze scholarly work to address timely issues relating to elections and reform.
Removing barriers: Once a clear path for progress is identified, we work to eliminate obstacles that hinder our priorities in electoral reform and voting rights, ensuring equitable access and meaningful participation.
Funding: Expand Democracy will identify effective strategies and reforms, obtain funding to promote them, and oversee grants to ensure their success.
Think outside the box: We emphasize bold, creative approaches to democratic reform, recognizing that the most effective solutions often come from thinking beyond conventional boundaries.
